There will be Better Days ahead
In the current anxiogenic context the important thing is not to get discouraged. We face undoubtedly a very serious sanitary crisis. A crisis that is not yet over. But fortunately we are not in war times. The reality is that today many countries cooperate to find the most effective vaccine against the Covid viruses. We believe that the "vaccine race" between different countries should be analyzed very positively. But at the same time we must denounce the unacceptable attitude of China regarding the investigations undertaken by the WHO. Having said that, it is important to highlight that the current health crisis affects first the weakest of our citizens: those living in extreme poverty and those who live in countries at war. It is in this alarming background, that the UN launched an urgent call to raise funds in the amount of US$ 35 Billion to help the most vulnerable and fragile people in 2021. In fact the UN underlines that a record 235 Million people will need humanitarian assistance and protection in 2021. This number represents a 40% increase from the previous year 2020, and is almost entirely the result of the Covid19 crisis. This situation according to the UN statements is "the bleakest and darkest perspective on humanitarian needs in the period ahead that has ever been set out". It must be added that many economists believe that 2021 could also be the year of a global recession. This would lead to an exceptional rise in long-term unemployment. Yet despite these dark predictions we must remain optimist for at least two reasons. The first reason is that economists are often wrong. But the most serious reason is that nowadays States around the world intervene quickly and with considerable financial means to cushion the impacts of crises.
