India is seeking a balanced position between Israël and its adversaries
Today India can congratulate itself on having good relations with Israël as well with most Arab countries and even with Iran. As a result, India will probably not take any party's side and should maintain a neutral position in the Middle East conflict. That said PM Narendra Modi has in the past and particularly after the tragic events of October 7 often recalled India's solidarity with Israël. Then on October 27 India joined 44 other countries in obtaining from the UN General Assembly a resolution calling for a humanitarian cease-fire in Gaza. But let us recall that it is only in 1992 that India opened formal diplomatic ties with Israël. Afterwards Israël became an important partner of India in terms of technology and also defense. And today Israël is a major supplier of arms to India. And let us also recall that Israël has become a key ally of India in the case of the Indo-Pakistani conflict. And let us also remember that India supported the Arab states during the two Arab-Israëli wars of June 1967 and October 1973. We believe that India will try to maintain this fine balance in its Middle East policy.
