Do we really Care about our Most Sensitive Data ?
The Internet of Things will of course have a major impact of our daily lives. More than 9 billion connected objects should be active across the world by 2018. Some other experts mention very different figures: 40 to 50 billion by 2020. All this reflects the fundamental changes which are underway. And obviously, one of the most sensitive issues relates to our health. Today, a connected wristband continuously monitors the health status of the user. Of course, and that is why a new technology is accepted, it also has revealed many positive aspects. It is to be expected that thanks to the connected objects many people will be more concerned about a regular physical activity and achieve a more balanced nutrition. And if that's the case, the use of such a technology can only be recommended. However, the key issues are as follows. First, how are we going to respond to the compulsory wearing of such a device? And above all, who will ensure a high level of protection for the privacy of citizens? Today, it is estimated that nearly 80% of insurance consumers are prepared to share personal information in return for lower premiums. In fact, the deal is sealed : a decrease in the prices of our health insurance premiums in return of a more responsible behavior of the insured person. That will of course mean an ongoing assessment! And, for example, our insurance company shall have immediate access to the informations provided on the cash register receipts of our favorite shop, and store this data. But the truth is that most people do not care about their privacy. Finally, the Internet of Things will undoubtedly generate enormous financial profits for the business community. The profit for the citizen-consumer of tomorrow will be much more difficult to assess!
